Daniel Michael Dahle

—   Daniel Michael Dahle, age 59, of Waterville died on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato following a five and a half year battle with melanoma.

  Born on April 13, 1952, in Morristown, Minnesota, Daniel was the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Pelant) Dahle. He graduated from Waseca High School in 1970. He married Gretchen Luther on May 4, 1973, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Following school, Danny worked at the University of Minnesota in Waseca and later as a truck driver for Tellijohn Helicopter in Arkansas and Missouri. He also worked for Continental Grain in Waseca, Highway Ag in Morristown, M & W Blacktopping in Waterville, and as a heavy equipment operator for Howard Timm before working for the Le Sueur County Highway Department for 36 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Southern Minnesota Darkhouse Association and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

  He is survived by his wife, Gretchen of Waterville; three children, Anthony Dahle and significant other, Amy Tolzman of Belle Plaine, Brigitte Dahle of Minnetonka, and Sarah Hopwood and her husband Patrick of Faribault; and two grandchildren, Bailey Hopwood and Kendall Hopwood. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Dahle of Waseca; siblings, Darlene Krocak of Waterville, Barbara Swan and her husband Bob of Palmer, AK, Susan Moldenhauer and her husband Doug of Waseca, Nancy Hall and her husband Sam of Chugiak, AK, and Mary Mahlen and her husband Tim of Buckley, WA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Dahle and his grandparents.

  At Daniel's request, his body was donated to the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Bequest Program. Private family services are being held.    Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Monday, April 2, 2012, from 4-8 p.m.  

  Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Melanoma Research.
