Irene I. Klammer


— Irene I. Klammer, 95, died October 30th at Oak Terrace in North Mankato, MN. She had been in declining health for the past two years. Born August 15, 1917, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Irene was the daughter of Pauline and Carl Johnson. After graduating from high school at Rake, IA, she moved to Mankato to attend Mankato Commercial College where she earned certificates in bookkeeping and general office management. Irene joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she met William C "Bill" Klammer. They were married November 21, 1940.

  Irene worked part-time in various jobs while raising her family. In 1965, she and her husband bought Associated Engineering; together they ran that business until Bill's death in 1984. Subsequently, their son Chuck assumed leadership of the business and the name changed to Associated Finishing, Inc. (AFI). Irene worked full-time, and later part-time, at AFI until she was 89.

  She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Karolyn Hanna, Santa Barbara, CA; W. C. "Chuck" and Kait Klammer, Jr., Good Thunder; Mark and Donna Klammer, Mankato; Cindy and Mark Salzwedel, Oshkosh, WI; Eleven (11) grandchildren, twenty-four (24) great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, her husband William C. Klammer, Sr., son-in-law Hugh Hanna and two grandchildren.

 Services will be held on Monday November 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato with burial at Woodland Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, 1605 Woodland Avenue, Mankato on Sunday November 4, 2012, from 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at Immanuel Church.  Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran School, Risen Savior Feed My Lambs Campaign or a favorite charity.
