Marcia Vanderbilt

—  Marcia Vanderbilt, age 86, of St. James, died on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Funeral services will be 1:30pm, Monday, May 13, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in St. James. Burial will be at Albion Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. James. Visitation will be Monday at the church one hour before services. You may send the family condolences online at Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or the Good Samaritan Society of St. James.

 Marcia Elaine Petersen was born on March 20, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, to Rev. and Mrs. A.R. Petersen. She graduated from Minnehaha Academy and the Fairview School of Nursing/St. Olaf College. She married Rev. Glenn Vanderbilt on September 9, 1950. They served parishes in rural Racine, Wisconsin, and rural Decorah, Iowa, before moving to St. James in 1961 toserve at Albion Lutheran Church. From 1966-1992, Marcia worked as a School Nurse in the St. James Public Schools. She loved her job and was dedicated to the students. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, participating in numerous committees, musical ensembles, FLCW programs, and bazaar craft groups. She was also active in Tuesday Club. She loved needlework and the time spent with dear friends in her sewing club.

 Marcia is survived by children Gary (Cathy) Vanderbilt of Watertown, MN, Dr. Mark Vanderbilt of Wexford, PA, and Laurel Vanderbilt of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by brother Rev.A.Richard (Beverly) Petersen, grandchildren Martha (George) Barrow, Michael Vanderbilt, Ann (Brian) Luethmers, Erica Vanderbilt, Kally Vanderbilt, great-granddaughters Lily and Kahala Barrow, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn on May 6, 1971. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Carol and Fritz Anderson, daughter-in-law Dianne Vanderbilt, and niece Christen Anderson.
