Lowell Walfred Anderson

—   Lowell Walfred Anderson aka Andy and L.W. passed away at his home in Rapid City, SD on August 2, 2013. He was born on August 4, 1936 in St. Peter, MN. He was the only child of Elvira Alma Olson Anderson and Walfred Anderson of Kasota, MN. Lowell was a member of the Kasota Presbyterian Church and very active in the Sunday school program. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1954. Lowell attended Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter and the University of Minnesota before he enlisted in the Army where he served overseas in Germany during the Cold War Era in counter-intelligence. After his service in the Army, he graduated from South Dakota State University at Brookings with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, his first job was with Remington Arms in CT. As a Professional Engineer he became a Mechanical Design Engineer for E.I. Dupont De Nemours in Wilmington, DE. During his 35 years with Dupont he assisted with procurement, design and construction for many of their chemical plants and systems, notably in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Ingleside, TX. Later in his career he wasin the explosives division and assisted in the building and reconstruction of many highways and byways in the midwest, mid Atlantic and the New England area. He retired in 1987, where he moved to Rapid City, SD and enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood carving.  

  Lowell was married to Dorothy Sharp and they had two children, Lisa and Victor and a step son, James "Fray" Sexton. After they divorced, he married Mona Schlernitzauer and adopted her three children, Daina, Bill and Chris.

  He is predeceased by his parents, step father, Carl Pettis, Sr. , step sister, Mercedes Coon, and  step brother, Carl "Bud" Pettis.

  He is survived by his step son, James "Fray"(Lana) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; his daughter, Lisa Blades (Bruce) of Smyrna, DE; his son, Victor Anderson (Annette) of Newark, DE; his daughter, Daina Anderson (Phil) of Barrington, NH; his son,Bill Anderson (Marcie) of Farmington, NH and his son, Chris Anderson (Deanna) of Jacksonville, FL and Piedmont, SD; sister -in-law, Lois Pettis and her children, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  He was a man who had a great sense of humor. A person that everyone could rely on and was loved by all who knew him. He will remain in our hearts forever and will be sorely missed.

  A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 18, with family and friends in Kasota, MN.
