Thomas J. Spiess "Big Man"

— Thomas J. Spiess "Big Man" age 62 of St. Peter died Friday, May 9, at the Mayo Health System in Mankato. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church Thursday, May 15 and continue one hour prior to the service Friday morning at the church. Inurnment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family has entrusted St. Peter Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Tom was born in St. Peter April 30, 1952 to Richard and Alice (Dysart) Spiess. He graduated from St. Peter High School and never left the area he called home. He loved to spend time fishing on the Minnesota River, Lake Washington and on the local lakes; but above all, loved spending time with his family and friends. Tom loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He lived his life always putting others before himself and fighting for the underdog. It seemed like Tom was the jack of all trades and will be missed by many friends, especially those in his morning coffee crew.

Tom's heart of gold will be missed by many, including his sister, Nancy (John) Woods of Cleveland and their children and grandchildren: Tara (Jim) Smith - Allison and Austin; Jana (Patrick) Kunz - Noah and Logan; Shawn Woods - Anna and Hailey. His brother Richard Spiess of St. Peter and his children and grandchildren: Danielle Bannick - Warner and Will; Brielle (Dustin) Swenson - Maren, Maxwell and Nolan;  Andrea (fianc, Ryan Herman) Spiess. His aunt, Madeline Spiess of Madelia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alice.
