Dean Thomas Eggers

— Dean Thomas Eggers, age 75, of North Mankato died peacefully Sunday, August 7, at Oaklawn Healthcare Center, surrounded by his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 10, at 10 a.m., with Fr. Mariano Valera, IVE officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be on Tuesday August 9, from 4-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Mankato Mortuary, and will continue one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to SS. Peter & Paul Church or the family.

Dean was born January 14, 1936, to Thomas T. and Clara C. (Olson) Eggers in Detroit Lakes, MN. He moved with his family to Mankato in 1946. Dean graduated from Mankato High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Army where he served from 1955-58. Dean was united in marriage to Clara Limon on April 8, 1961, at SS. Peter Paul Catholic Church and had just celebrated 50 years of wedded life. He was employed by Continental Can Co., which later became Crown Cork and Seal, for over 42 years before retiring in 1999. After retirement he worked for Lagers as a courtesy van driver for several years. He then worked in construction for Frank Selvey helping to build some of the townhouses. His hobbies included woodworking, remodeling, camping, canoeing, deer hunting, cross-country skiing, long walks on the beach while vacationing in Mexico, and playing cards and other games.

His family was the most important part for him and he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. His skills in remodeling projects landed him with the Wrecking Crew from SS. Peter & Paul Church where they work on anything and everything that needs fixing at the church.

Dean is survived by his wife Clara of North Mankato; three children, Patricia Dykema and special friend, Wayne McGuire, of Mankato, Mark Eggers and special friend, Donna Cyr, of Minneapolis, and Daniel (Mary) Eggers of Vadnais Heights; four grandchildren, Joseph Dykema, Jonathon Dykema, Justine Eggers and Maria Eggers; and great-granddaughter, Tadim Kahnke; two siblings, Darrel Eggers and Barbara (William) Miller, all of Mankato; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Stephen in 1965; brother Bruce; sister-in-law, Georgia Eggers; niece Lynne Lyon and her daughter Michelle Pursifull.
