Elmer Edward Gleason
Elmer Edward Gleason, 87, of Nicollet died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at his home in Nicollet. Funeral service will be 2 pm Monday, September 9 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Ron Siemers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Nicollet American Legion Post #510. Visitation will be 3-7 pm Sunday and from 7:30-10:30 am Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. Elmer is survived by his wife, Delores Gleason of Nicollet; sons and daughters-in-law, Neal and Vicky Gleason of Courtland, Merl and Sally Gleason of Nicollet, and Dale and Cindy Gleason of Nicollet; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Florence Mogensen of St. Peter; sisters-in-law, Rosalie (Gleason) Gasow of Glencoe, Leona Burnett of North Mankato, and Hildegard Asleson of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister-in-law, Willard and Florence Gleason, Lyle Gleason, and Larry Gleason; brother-in-law, Edward Mogensen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and James Stevensen, Grace and Gene Brooks.
Elmer Edward Gleason was born August 20, 1926, on the family farm in Granby Township to Russell and Lucile (Brinkman) Gleason. He attended country school in Granby Township and later attended Nicollet High School until the 11th grade, when he was drafted into the service. He served with the 20th Army Air Force, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Elmer moved back to Nicollet and worked with his dad on the family farm. In the 1960's, Elmers parents moved into Nicollet and Elmer took over the farming operation, residing on the farm his entire life. Elmer enjoyed farming, fishing with family and friends, and driving his 1928 Oakland car. Elmer was a self-taught harmonica player and enjoyed playing tunes for his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elmer was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #510 in Nicollet. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, MVL, or to the donor's choice.
