Shirley J. Anderson
Shirley J. Anderson, age 87, of Mapleton, died on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Mapleton Community Home.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Medo Lutheran Church with Rev. Laurie Stoeger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Medo Lutheran Cemetery. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mayo Health Systems Hospice Program, Medo Lutheran Church, or the donor's choice.
Shirley was born on March 9, 1926 to Art and Elsie (Rodell) Miller. She was united in marriage to Lester Anderson on August 1, 1946 in Mankato. They lived on the Anderson farm in Beauford. She enjoyed being a farm wife and raising her children. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when in her 20's. The past 16 years she was in a wheelchair and her husband Lester cared for her at their home until they both moved to the Mapleton Community Home two months ago. Shirley enjoyed baking and is well known for the hundreds of rosettes she would make for Christmas and the lutefisk dinners at Medo Lutheran Church. She loved playing cards, especially pfeffer. Lester and Shirley also did a lot of traveling and visited many foreign countries.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lester of Mapleton; five children, Linda (Joe) Daly of Le Sueur, Jola Walker of Mapleton, Jon Anderson of Mankato, Wanda (Mike) Thomas of Coloma, MI, and Peter (Becky) Anderson of Mundelein, IL; eight grandchildren, Patrick Daly of Waseca, Jen (Joel) Turensky of Peoria, AZ, Brenda (Matt) Stoltzman of Mapleton, Becky Batterton of Lake Bluff, IL, Stacy (Mike) Boyum of Barrington, IL, Brian Thomas and fianc Jamie Thomson of Oak Creek, WI, Nathan Anderson of Chicago, IL, and Tanner Anderson of Mundelein, IL; nine great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, and Emme Turensky, Noah and Merrit Stoltzman, Haley and Aubrey Batterton, and Madison and Brody Boyum; sister, Lou (Bob) Lentz of Rochester; brother, Robert Miller of Mankato; sister-in-law, Margaret Williams of Edina; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant granddaughter, Stephanie Thomas; son-in-law, Dennis Walker; brothers, Lyle and Gordon Miller; sisters-in-law, Ruth Miller, Rosemary Miller, and Alice Peters; brothers-in-law, Warren Williams and Ed Peters.
