Cleo M. Holmgren

— Cleo M. Holmgren, age 87, of North Mankato, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

A Celebration of Cleo's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Horn officiating.  Burial will be in Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery, Belgrade Township, Nicollet County.  Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to VINE Faith in Action or an organization of the donor's choice.

Cleo was born May 20, 1925, to Albert A. and Cora E. (Johnson) Peterson in Mankato.  She graduated from Mankato High School in 1943.  On October 19, 1946, Cleo was united in marriage to Leonard A. Holmgren.  They were blessed with two children, Bruce and Lynne.  In 1969, Leonard, Cleo and Lynne moved to Solvang, CA, where Leonard continued his career as a letter carrier and Cleo resumed employment as a waitress.  In 1981, Leonard passed away and Cleo retired in 1988.  After several adventurous and joyous retirement years with her California friends, Cleo chose to return "home" and moved to North Mankato in January of 1992. Cleo was a member of Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church; the American Legion Auxiliary (since 1938); the VFW Post 950 Auxiliary; and the Eagle's Auxiliary. She enjoyed rooting for the Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, and The Wild.  Cleo loved spending time with her family and friends, bowling, Bingo, pull tabs, playing cards and, when she was able, fishing.

Cleo is survived by her two children: Bruce Holmgren of Overland Park, KS, and Crosslake, MN, and Lynne (fianc Tom Yancey) Holmgren of North Mankato; grandchildren: Cristin and Daniel Holmgren; granddog, Abby; sister, Arlene (Oris) Blegen of Hastings; former daughter-in-law, Libby Corriston; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; sister, Merle (Tino) Louris; and nephew and Godson, Tom Louris.
