The holidays mean time with family. During December, the Greater Mankato Area Anti-Violence Committee has chosen the theme “Healthy Relationships and Family” with the hope that only fond memories remain when the new year comes.
Holiday traditions are formed and followed by families. Extended family members and friends visit, great meals are served and gifts are exchanged.
Not everyone’s family celebrations are pleasant. Sometimes there is disappointment, anger is displayed and alcohol abuse leaves ill feelings that carry over to future gatherings.
Always take the positives out of any relationships and leave the rest behind. Have boundaries for those that have none.
Healthy relationships should enhance who you are, not try to change you. Families should be supportive, not hurtful.
Make it a point to have a safe and joyous holiday season with pleasant and warm memories for future years to come.
