MANKATO — The local version of the popular TV contest "Dancing with the Stars" returned for its second year Saturday night with a bigger venue and more surprises. Dancing with the Mankato Stars featured 13 teams pairing local celebrities with experienced local dancers from Dance Express in a fundraiser for the South Central Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Dance Express director and event organizer Mitzi Roberts said last year's event packed the Kato Ballroom before the public had a chance to buy tickets. This year's dance moved to the Verizon Wireless Center to accommodate more people, and hopefully top the $50,000 last year's event raised for the Red Cross.
Dr. Kevin Hardesty and Jessica Alstad were this year’s overall winner. $73,000 was raised for the local Red Cross at the event.
