ST PETER — It's state tournament time again in southern Minnesota. While it may not get as much attention as baseball or track, rodeo riders from across the region converged on St. Peter this weekend for the fifth year in a row for the Junior High State Finals Rodeo and Region 4 High School Rodeo at Nicollet County Fairgrounds.
For junior high riders, this is the Super Bowl of rodeo. Winners here advance to the national junior high rodeo this summer in Gallup, N.M. High school competitors earn the right to compete in the finals in Hugo later in June.
The weekend's competition featured feature bareback, saddle bronc and bull-riding, calf-roping and other events.
