Elysian — For 364 days of the year, Elysian's population is around 650 people. But one day a year _ July 4th_ that number grows exponentially. Parking and curbside seating are at a premium as several thousand people descend on the community located southeast of Mankato on Highway 60. Cars lined city streets and lined Highway 60 leading into and out of town on Friday as crowds arrived to watch the parade, watch the turtle races, quaff a cold one in the beer garden or even participate in an arm wrestling contest. Naturally, red, white and blue were the colors of the day.
