West boys earn state track berth

The Mankato West boys track and field team scored 892 points on Tuesday and Wednesday to take first place at the Section 1AAA True Team Meet. Host Lakeville South was second with 791 points and Rochester Century was third with 769.
West’s best event was the pole vault where Chris Kolb finished first at 14-feet-3 and Adam Starr was second at 13-0.
Also taking firsts for the Scarlets were the 4x200-meter relay of Mike and Aaron Richer, Paul Berndt and Brad Wiest (1:32.87); Aaron Richter in the 400 meters (51.57); and Evan Taylor in the 300 hurdles (41.59).
West’s runners-up included the 4x8 relay of Zach Storm, Dan Starke, Chris Rozendawkins and Devin Strowder (8:32.10); Taylor in the 110 hurdles (16.20); and the 4x4 relay of Starke, Aaron Richter, Taylor and Jon Paulsen (3:32.19).
