Down 4-0 early, there was concern but not panic for the Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial baseball team Friday.
“I thought we were a little flat early, but then we got a couple of hits and got some energy in the dugout that carried over to the field,” Knights coach John Madsen said. “We’re a senior-dominated team, we should be able to come back.”
The Knights scored all of their runs with two-out hits to defeat Sibley East 8-5 in a nonconference game. It was the fourth straight win for LCWM, while Sibley East saw its four-game winning streak end.
Sibley East scored two runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, Tyler Agre had a two-out RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Jake Pichelmann for two unearned runs, while in the second inning, Agre’s RBI single and infield error led to two more unearned runs.
“We were a little down, but we’ve been hitting the ball pretty well, and we knew we could come back,” LCWM senior Drew Madsen said. “We’ve had a couple of games where we’ve come back this season.”
The Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the second, with Kevin Williams and Kyle Balstad hitting consecutive two-out, two-run doubles.
After Sibley East went ahead 5-4 on Nate Pilacinski’s RBI single, the Knights took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on Jake Pahl’s two-run single with two outs.
