The Minnesota State University baseball team’s season came to an end Saturday when it was eliminated from the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament via a 6-5 loss to Nebraska-Omaha at Glennen Field.
MSU used back-to-back solo home runs from Kyle Hoover and Danny Miller to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning. But UNO broke the tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
MSU added a run in the top of the ninth when Travis Taran scored on Zach Danelson’s triple. With Danelson representing the tying run on third, Kosuke Hattori struck out looking to end the game and close out the career of retiring head coach Dean Bowyer.
MSU starter Jimmy Dale took the loss for MSU, giving up five earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. He finished with a 5-3 record.
It was the seventh time in eight games this season that UNO has defeated Minnesota State. MSU finishes the season with a 28-25 record.
