HENDERSON

A month ago, the Le Sueur-Henderson volleyball team played a nearly perfect match to defeat Jordan in three games.

On Thursday, Jordan got its revenge, playing a near-perfect match to defeat the Giants and clinch at least a share of the Minnesota River Conference championship. Game scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.

“We didn’t put enough pressure on their defense,” LSH coach Dave Nixon said. “We gave them a lot of free balls, and when you do that, they’re going to pound it down your throat.”

Senior Brittany Chambers led Jordan with 23 kills, and Leah Dietel added 17 kills and two blocks. The relentless attack didn’t allow the Giants to get any momentum.

“They kept coming at us,” senior Brianne Berger said. “We weren’t on tonight.”

Each game followed a similar script, with the score being pretty even through 10 points before Jordan pulled away.

In the opener, Jordan led 13-10 before going on a 9-2 run, ignited by five kills from Chambers. Dietel’s kill ended the game at 25-14.

Kaitlyn Braun had two kills as LSH led 9-7 in the second game before Jordan responded with a 14-2 run. Dietel had four kills and a block as Jordan finished the game at 25-14.

LSH’s only lead in the third game came at 4-3, but Jordan regained the edge at 13-8 when Chambers took the service. Using a rocket jump serve, she scored six straight points, with four aces, to open a 20-8 margin. Morgan Meger had two kills as the Giants pulled within 23-15, but Chambers finished the match with another kill.

“We didn’t look confident,” Nixon said. “Then, we weren’t as aggressive with our hitting. We were tentative with our passing and digging.”

Braun finished with nine kills, and Natalie Wentzlaff and Meger had six kills apiece. Shelly Blaschko made 26 assists and nine digs, and Berger had 20 digs.

“We know we have to do better,” Berger said. “We hope to meet them again (in the playoffs).”

LSH (17-4, 4-2 in MRC) plays Monday at Blue Earth Area.
