MANKATO — Blake Matuska’s walk-off RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Mankato Loyola to a 6-5 victory over Martin County West in a Valley Conference baseball game Friday.
Matuska made a winner out of Evan Ellingworth who pitched all seven innings, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts. He did not walk a batter.
Shane Sellner went 3 for 3 with two runs scored for the Crusaders. Teammate Kyle Reynolds knocked in three runs. Jake Faber gave up seven hits in the losing effort. He was 4 for 4 at the plate.
Loyola (9-1) plays Cleveland in the first round of the Crusader Invitational at 9 a.m. today at Franklin Rogers Park.
Cleveland 7, Alden-Conger 0: Josh Plonsky and Kyle Zioebarthj combined on a one-hitter as Cleveland won the Valley home game.
Plonsky pitched four no-hit innings, striking out three. Ziebarth gave up one hit in three innings with four strikeouts.
Tyler Seitz 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ziebarth had a hit, two RBIs and a run, and Spencer Davies was 2 for 3 with an RBI and run.
Cleveland (2-4) plays in the Loyola tournament today, taking on Loyola at 9 a.m. at Franklin Rogers Park.
Blooming Prairie sweeps JWP: Blooming Prairie swept a pair of Gopher Conference games at Janesville, winning 13-9 and 15-4.
Kyle Fisel was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for JWP in Game 1. Ricky Johnson and Easton Schuch each had two hits, and Schuch had two RBIs.
Tristen Kroll tripled in the second game, and Jordan Richardson was 1 for 2. Matt Kopischke walked twice and scored twice. JWP (4-5, 4-3 in Gopher) plays United South Central in a doubleheader Monday at Wells. Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 8, Windom 6: Chuck Menne was 3 for 3 with double and four RBIs as LCWM won the nonconference game at Windom.
