---- — MANKATO — Mankato Loyola opened the Section 2A, South Subsection softball playoffs in impressive fashion Tuesday, downing United South Central 25-1 in five innings.
Olivia Zwaschka and Kenady Benning combined on a no-hitter for the Crusaders. Zwaschka worked the first three innings, striking out seven, walking two and hitting two batters. Benning pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth, with four strikeouts and no walks.
Jordyn Strachan led Loyola’s hit parade, going 4 for 4 with two doubles, four runs scored and two RBIs. Jordyn Theuninck was 3 for 5, with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Rae Dose smacked a single and a double and scored three times. Jessi Van Blarcom went 2 for 3 with three runs scored.
Loyola (15-2) continues subsection play Thursday with 5 p.m. home game against St. Clair.
St. Clair 9, Nicollet 6: Crystal Danks hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead St. Clair to the victory in the Section 2A, South Subsection game at St. Clair.
Bailey Arndt pitched a complete game, striking out eight. Danks finished with two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Megan Fandrich was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Brianna Cline and Katelyn Karels both had two hits.
For Nicollet (5-8), Courtney Strauss had three hits, and Kayla Giefer had two hits. Sarah Molitor, Kaitlyn Bode and Carissa Woller each hit a home run.
St. Clair (8-8) plays at Mankato Loyola Thursday.
LCWM 18, Madelia-Truman 0: Sammi Sorenson pitched a five-inning, no-hitter as Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial opened the Section 2A, South Subsection tournament with the win at Lake Crystal.
The Knights had 20 hits. Kenzie Bade was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, Allie Wittrock was 3 for 3 with three runs, and Brittany Burnett was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. Sorenson walked two and struck out six.
LCWM (9-6) plays Thursday against Martin County West at Welcome.
