East's Swanson still alive in Class AA state tourney

ST. PAUL — Mankato East heavyweight Logan Swanson rebounded from a first-round loss against the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state on Friday to advance in the wrestlebacks of the Class AA tournament at Xcel Energy Center.

After losing to Kasson-Mantorville’s Sam Stoll via fall in 1:44 in the opening round, Swanson came back with a 9-0 major decision over Logan Zaske of Redwood Valley in the first round of wrestlebacks.

“That felt a lot better,” Swanson said. “I almost had him pinned in the second period, but I ran out of time. I just had to get used to the atmosphere up here. I told coach it’s like the air is different in a great big arena like this.”

Swanson continues wrestleback action at 9:30 a.m. today.
