Mankato BB roundup: West boys top Owatonna

OWATONNA — Steven Nessler scored 19 points to lead Mankato West to a 59-45 Big Nine Conference boys basketball win over Owatonna Friday.

Jake Dale had 10 points and eight rebounds for the winners. Alex Goettl added seven points and seven rebounds.

West won the game off the glass, outrebounding Owatonna 29-18. Sam Fenske paced the Huskies with 12 points.

West (12-6, 7-5 in Big Nine) plays at Albert Lea on Monday.

Winona boys 48, East 45: Mankato East’s 3-foot runner in the paint went in and out on Friday and the Winhawks held on for the Big Nine Conference win at Winona. Winona hit two free throws in the waning moments.

Phillip Atticelli led Winona in the back-and-forth game with 13 points. Mattu Chuol led East with 14 points and Gorg Alhag scored 11.

Mankato East won the rebounding battle 38-33.

Winona improves to 11-7 while East alls to 8-10. The Cougars have a make-up game Monday at Faribault.

East girls 67, Winona 55: Claire Ziegler had 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Cougars won the Big Nine road game.

Taylor Karge added 16 points and seven rebounds for East.

Hallee Hoeppner had 23 points for Winona.

East (8-8, 6-5) plays Monday at home against Waseca.
