State-bound Loyola headline all-city basketball teams

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola makes its second straight trip to the Class A girls basketball tournament this week, and on Monday, five Crusaders were honored at the KTOE-Pepsi-Elk’s all-city banquet.

The 16-person team, with eight boys and eight girls, was selected by local media.

Loyola senior Aunikah Bastian is averaging 8.8 points and 4.0 rebounds, and she leads the team with 5.6 assists and 4.5 steals per game. She also has a team-best 73.7 percent at the free-throw line. Bastian has been chosen to play in the coaches association’s all-star games.

Senior Annie Nawrocki averages 8.4 points and team-high 7.4 rebounds. She also averages 4.1 offensive rebounds. Nawrocki had 19 rebounds in the section championship game.

Senior Jordyn Theuninck is averaging 4.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals.

Junior Megan Schroeder averages 10.4 points and 7.3 rebounds, with a team-high 116 offensive boards, 4.1 per game. She scored 22 points in the section championship game.

Freshman Lindsey Theuninck led the Crusaders in scoring at 13.4 points per game, and she added 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.3 steals. She also had a team-high 28 3-pointers.

Mankato East senior Claire Ziegler averaged 19.1 points and 12.8 rebounds this season, capping one of the best careers in program history. Ziegler, who has signed with Minnesota State, ended up with 1,648 points, which is fourth best at East, and a school-record 1,113 rebounds. She set a single-season record with 345 rebounds this season.

Senior Taylor Karge averaged 15.9 points this season, and pushed her career total to 1,006 in the final game. She ranks 13th in program history for scoring. Karge also averaged 7.0 rebounds this season.

Mankato West sophomore Lexi Schoper averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.9 assists this season, shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line. Schoper scored her 1,000th career point in the final game of the season. He 589 points is a single-season record, and she made 63 3-pointers, second best in program history.
