Mankato girls curling team advances to national championship

MANKATO — The Mankato women's junior curling team qualified Dec. 28 to advance to the 2014 USA Curling Junior National Championship Jan. 25- Feb. 1 at the Granite Curling Club in Seattle.

The event brings together the top 10 women's and men's junior teams in the U.S. to compete for the national junior title. The winning teams will represent the U.S. at the 2014 World Junior Championships Feb. 26-March 5 in Flims, Switzerland.

The Mankato team includes Aly Deegan, Caiti Flannery, Katelyn Furst and Melissa Runing (skip). The team qualified during the Minnesota State Championships in Duluth after completing a 4-1 round robin record.
