MSU volleyball opens homestand with win

MANKATO — Led by Chandra Honebrink's career-best 19 kills and .516 hitting percentage, the Minnesota State volleyball team opened a five-match home stand with a 3-1 win over the Upper Iowa Tuesday at Bresnan Arena.

The Mavericks won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 13-25, 25-21.

MSU also got offense from Tiana Runck with 16 kills and Lexi Platz with 11. The Maverick's Ellie Van De Steeg recorded a match-high 51 assists.

Rissi McNallan finished with six ace serves while Haley Fogarty led the Mavericks defensively with 13 digs.

MSU (9-12, 5-9 in NSIC) hosts Northern State (18-3, 11-3 in NSIC) Friday before a Saturday match with MSU Moorhead (14-8, 7-7 in NSIC).
