MoonDogs shut out Rox

ST. CLOUD — Timothy Arakawa went 3 for 4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs to lead the Mankato MoonDogs to a 6-0 Northwoods League baseball victory over the St. Cloud Rox on Wednesday afternoon.

The win put the MoonDogs back over the .500 mark (11-10).

MoonDogs pitchers Sam Clay and Jared Carkuff combined for the two-hit shutout. Each allowed one hit and struck out three. Clay went five innings for the win, leaving with a 4-0 lead. He also walked three batters.

Mankato pounded out 11 hits and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning, thanks in part to Arakawa's homer.

Matt Jones finished 2 for 5 with an RBI, and Zach Zehner went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Chase Simpson finished 2 for 5.

The MoonDogs returned to Mankato after the game and will host Willmar at 7:05 p.m. today at Franklin Rogers Park. The first 500 fans will receive a T-shirt courtesy of HickoryTech.
