MANKATO — With the tying run on third base with only one out in the ninth inning, Jess Amedee got a infield out and a strikeout to register his sixth save and lead the Mankato MoonDogs to a 2-1 victory over Willmar in a Northwoods League baseball game Sunday night at Franklin Rogers Park.
The game took only two hours, 17 minutes to play in front of 1,236 fans.
The MoonDogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Woody Woodward had a one-out, infield single, and Josh Fuentes walked. Chase Simpson singled, but Woodward was thrown out at the plate. However, Fuentes later scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth inning, Quinnton Mack hit a solo homer, his second home run since joining the team eight games ago.
Willmar scored its only run in the ninth, but Amedee worked out of trouble toget the save. The winning pitcher was Cameron Gianinni, who allowed onlly two hits and two walks with nine strikeout in eight scoreless innings, throwing 110 pitches.
The MoonDogs had six hits, five of which were singles, and five walks off three Willmar pitchers. Simpson was 2 for 4.
The MoonDogs (14-12) will host a two-game series with Thunder Bay, beginning today. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Franklin Rogers Park.
