MANKATO — The Mankato National Post 11 baseball team dropped two games Sunday and had to settle for fourth place in the annual Jim Mullvihill Legion Baseball Classic.

Mankato opened the day with a 6-1 loss to eventual champion Chanhassen and closed out with a 7-5 loss to Austin in the third-place game.

Against Chanhassen, Steven Nessler and Jamie Munsterman had the only two hits for Mankato. Ryan Theissen took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits, walking five and striking out four in five innings.

Austin 7, Mankato National 5: Austin broke open a 5-5 tie with a two-run seventh inning to earn the tournament's third-place trophy.

Cook finished 2 for 5 with three RBIs. He also took the loss, pitching all seven innings and allowing five earned runs on 12 hits, striking out three and walking two.

Devin Ries had two hits and scored twice for Mankato. Wollenzien also ended up with two hits.

Mankato National (4-6) takes on crosstown rival Mankato American at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wolverton Field.

Mankato American 7, Redwood Falls 6: Mankato American won the game in eight innings on a walk-off, RBI single by Sean Allan. It was the first win of the season for the Americans.

Dylan Hayenga led off the inning with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Metzler. Allan then took advantage of the drawn-in outfield by belting an 0-2 pitch over the center fielder's head for the game-winner.

Allan, Will Cipos, Nick Brink and Taylor Barnes all finished with two hits apiece. Brett Taylor won the game with four innings of strong relief. He allowed one run on one hit, struck out four and walked five.

American (1-6) has a doubleheader against Sleepy Eye beginning at 5:30 p.m. today.
