MoonDogs drop 4-2 decision to St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD — A two-run, fifth inning rally proved to be the difference as the St. Cloud Rox downed the Mankato MoonDogs 4-2 in a Northwoods League baseball game Wednesday at Joe Faber Field.

St. Cloud pitcher Nick McCarty limited Mankato to three hits over the first seven innings to get the win. He allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out six. Kevin Burgee earned the save with 1.2 innings of shutout relief.

Brett Murray had the only extra-base hit for Mankato, smacking his second triple of the season. Peter Maris and Tanner Rockwell had the other MoonDogs' hits.

Derek Umphres and Eric Schenck-Joblinske had RBIs in the losing effort. Starter Mitchell Traver took the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts over four innings.

Mankato (5-4 in North Division's second half) hosts Duluth at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Franklin Rogers Park.
