MoonDogs fall to Rochester 9-2

ROCHESTER — A quartet of Mankato MoonDogs pitchers gave up 14 hits on Tuesday as the Rochester Honkers downed Mankato 9-2 in a Northwoods League baseball game at Mayo Field.

Connor Schaefbauer and Reid Roper led the Honkers with three hits apiece. Matt Kent went the distance for the win, scattering seven hits without allowing an earned run. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Mankato held a 2-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings before Rochester scored nine unanswered runs.

Brett Synek paced the MoonDogs' attack, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Tanner Rockwell doubles for Mankato. Tyler Sullivan, Derek Umphres and Craig Lepre had the other MoonDogs' hits.

Starter Cord Cockrell took the loss. He gave up five earned runs on eight hits through 4.1 innings. Cockrell fanned three without walking a batter. Austin Warner, Connor Miller and Matt Wilson finished up for the 'Dogs.

Mankato, 8-6 in the second half of the North Division, takes on Rochester again today at Franklin Rogers Park. Starting time is 7:05 p.m.
