The Free Press' Frederick wins two Associated Press awards

MINNEAPOLIS — Free Press staff writer Shane Frederick collected two awards from the Minnesota Associated Press Sports Association during its annual summer meeting on Wednesday.

Frederick took first place in the Game Story category for his coverage of Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey goaltender Marah Sobczak's return to game action 15 months after being critically injured in a car accident.

Frederick also took third place in the Breaking News category for his story about Minnesota State men's hockey player Zach Lehrke's decision to leave the Mavericks due to a medical condition. (Lehrke later returned to the team.)
