Mav men defeat Peacocks 67-54

FAYETTE, IOWA — Minnesota State shot 68.3 percent in the second half and rolled past Upper Iowa 67-54 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball game.

The Mavericks led 33-28 at halftime, then made 13 of 19 shots in the second half to open the lead.

Zach Monaghan led Minnesota State with 17 points, making 7 of 8 free throws, and five steals.

Connor O’Brien had 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Gage Wooten and Assem Marei each scored 10 points. Marei added five rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Mavericks had a 40-28 rebounding advantage.

Minnesota State moved into first place in the Northern Sun with the victory. Winona State fell a game back by losing to Concordia-St. Paul at Winona.

The Mavericks (20-3, 16-3 in Northern Sun) play at Winona State today, scheduled for 6 p.m.
