---- — WATERLOO, IOWA — The best team in the Northwoods League, the Waterloo Bucks, got back on track Saturday, pounding out 10 hits and defeating the Mankato MoonDogs 10-4.
A night after losing in Mankato, the Bucks returned home and jumped out to a 7-0 lead after five innings before holding off a sixth-inning rally by Mankato.
The MoonDogs scored four runs on three hits and an error in the sixth. Chase Simpson drove in a run during the inning and finished 2 for 5. Matt Jones went 2 for 4.
With a 7-4 lead, the Bucks tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Kahana Neal took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and no strikeouts over four innings.
Waterloo is now 42-14 overall. The North Division's first-half champion is 17-4 in the second half standings.
Mankato (30-25, 13-8 in the second half) will play again at 5:05 p.m. today at the Madison Mallards.
