Jason Hoppe pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking three, to lead the Minnesota State baseball team to a 7-0 win over Wayne State in the second round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament Thursday night.
Parker Sullivan went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Mavericks. Todd Standish finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when MSU scored twice. Standish smacked an RBI double and scored on a Sullivan ground out.
Standish made it 3-0 in the seventh, scoring on Connor McCallum’s sacrifice fly.
The Mavericks scored four insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning, getting an RBI single from Sullivan, an RBI double from McCallum and a two-run single from Lucas Skjefte.
The Mavericks will play Bemidji State at 3:30 p.m. today. Bemidji defeated Winona State 5-4 on Thursday night.
