MINNESOTA LAKE — Ben Larson scored on a balk in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Maple River baseball team a 4-3 nonconference victory over St. Peter in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Larson finished 3 for 3 and drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out hit after the Saints took the lead in the top of the inning.
Mike Lewis finished 2 for 4 for the Eagles, and Zach Krengel pitched the final two innings for the win.
St. Peter’s Jaycee Vetter took the loss in relief.
Both teams open postseason play Saturday, with Maple River (10-8) hosting Le Sueur-Henderson and St. Peter hosting New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
NUC 11, Loyola 10 (8 innings): Evan Ellingworth was 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs in Mankato Loyola’s home loss to New Ulm Cathedral.
Kyle Reynolds finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs for the Crusaders, and Austin Ellingworth was 2 for 5.
For the Greyhounds, Nathan Palmer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Jake Stadick and Brandon Beranek each had two hits. Reliever Josh Kienlen got the win.
Loyola (10-6) will open postseason play at 1 p.m. Saturday against Martin County West at Franklin Rogers Park.
Nicollet 3, CMC 1: Colin Bloemke and Matt Johnson each drove in a run to help the Raiders defeat Cedar Mountain-Comfrey in a Section 2A, North Subsection play-in game.
Matt Christenson was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits, four walks with six strikeouts over seven innings. Cole Kelly took the loss.
Nicollet (6-6) will play New Ulm Cathedral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mueller Park in New Ulm.
SESM 13, LCWM 6: Mike Hirsch pitched a six-hitter and Sean Mathiowetz went 5 for 5 as Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial in a nonconference game at Sleepy Eye.
Chuck Menne took the loss. Bryan Davis was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and three runs scored for LCWM. Menne was 2 for 3.
