Balza resigns at Bethany Lutheran College

MANKATO — Dave Balza has resigned as head coach of the Bethany Lutheran

College men¹s basketball team. He has accepted the head coaching position at

Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. ‹ a Division II


In two seasons at Bethany, Balza compiled a 28-25 overall record and a 22-6

mark in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). He led the Vikings to

their first UMAC regular season championship in 2012. Bethany reached the

UMAC championship game in both seasons under Balza.

Prior to coming to Bethany, Balza was the first head coach at Florida Gulf

Coast University. He served there from its inaugural season of 2002-03

through the 2010-11 season.

Among his other coaching stints were St. Joseph¹s College of Indiana

(1998-2001), assistant coach at Ashland University (1996-1998) and Cleveland

State University (1991-1996). He also served as a student manager for the

national champion University of Michigan Wolverines in 1989.
