MANKATO — Freshman Luke Sellner pitched a shutout to lead Mankato Loyola to a pair of victories at the Loyola baseball tournament Saturday.
The Crusaders opened with a 15-0 victory in five innings against Cleveland. Luke Sellner gave up five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Shane Sellner was 2 for 4 with six RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first inning, and Jacob Peller was 2 for 3.
The Crusaders finished the day with a 9-2 victory against St. Clair. Brody Martinka pitched the first three innings, allowing five hits and two walks with one strikeout, and Ryan Leiferman finished, giving up three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. John Fink had a hit and walked three times, scoring twice.
For St. Clair, Alex Anderson finished 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Joe Bruels had a run and an RBI. Brandon Freitag added two hits.
Loyola (9-2) plays Monday at Martin County West.
In St. Clair’s first game, the Cyclones defeated Faribault Bethlehem Academy 11-10, as Henrik Moellgaard scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning. Bruels finished 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs. Kyler Drummer had two hits and two RBIs, and Dylan Boettcher had two hits and three RBIs.
St. Clair (3-8) will play Monday at Waterville Elysian Morristown.
Meanwhile, Cleveland won its second game 3-2 over FBA. Carter Kopet pitched a complete game, while Josh Baker had a double, RBI and run scored. Travis Burt was 2 for 3.
Cleveland (1-10) plays Tuesday at home against Nicollet.
West 4, Albert Lea 2: Steven Nessler’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the fourth inning allowed Mankato West to win the Big Nine Conference game at Albert Lea.
Game 2 of the doubleheader was postponed because of rain and will be played Wednesday at Albert Lea.
The Scarlets had only three hits. Devin Ries and Alex Goettl picked up RBIs with sacrifice flies.
