BLC falls in season opener

NORTHFIELD — The Bethany Lutheran men’s basketball team opened its season with an 86-64 loss to St. Olaf Friday in a nonconference matchup at Northfield.

The Vikings’ were led offensively by Jacob Wensmann’s 16 points. Vikings’ forward Trent Kuechenmeister was next with 12 points and Jeremiah Fogarty had 11 points.

Sophomore guard Darin Haugh had a game-high eight assists for Bethany. St. Olaf outplayed the Vikings down low, scoring 40 points in the paint compared to 12 for Bethany. St. Olaf also forced 16 Bethany turnovers while turning the ball over only nine times.

The Vikings (0-1) try to rebound from the loss at 7 p.m., Tuesday when they host Gustavus Adolphus College (1-0) at the BLC Sports and Fitness Center.
