BLC splits with Northwestern

ST. PAUL — The Bethany Lutheran baseball team closed out the 2013 regular season with a split of a doubleheader against Northwestern Tuesday. The Vikings won the first game 10-7 and lost the second 14-8.

In Game 1, Matt McPartland and Nate Lee each smacked a single and a double. Brian Vomhof also had two hits. Alex Klug got the win in relief as Bethany scored three times in the top of the 11th inning to pull out the victory.

In the second game, Northwestern combined 19 hits with six BLC errors to run up the score. Zach Markwith, Bryan McCallum and Taylor Gonyea had three hits apiece for the winners.

Adam Geiger and Andy Gensch paced Bethany with three hits each. Clint Arentz and Deric Poldberg added two hits apiece.

Bethany begins play in the UMAC tournament Friday.
