Yackel helps LCWM win Valley title

---- — MANKATO — Bryson Yackel went 4 for 5 with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs Tuesday to lead Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial to a 15-10 Valley Conference baseball victory over Mankato Loyola at Franklin Rogers Park.

The win gave LCWM the Valley Conference championship with an 8-0 record. Loyola finished second at 6-2.

Kolten Barker went 3 for 6 with four RBIs for the Knights. Jordan Nelson was 3 for 5 with a double and Nick Kelly added two hits. Bryan Davis came on in relief to get the win, allowing three runs on three hits with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Loyola was led by Evan Ellingworth who belted two home runs and finished with four RBIs. Shane Sellner ended up 2 for 3.

Mark Kortuem took the loss in relief, giving up five hits and fanning four without allowing an earned run over three innings.

Loyola (10-3) hosts New Ulm Cathedral at 5 p.m. Friday at Bethany field. LCWM (12-2) plays Thursday at Lester Prairie.

MR 18, Cleveland 0: Maple River scored 13 runs in the first inning, and five in the second to down Cleveland in a Valley game at Minnesota Lake.

The Eagles’ Nolan Walters drove in five runs in the first inning, Ethan Boertge had two doubles and four RBIs, and Zach Krengel scored three times. Devan Swanson gave up four hits and two walks and struck out eight in five innings.

Maple River (5-6, 2-2 Valley) takes on Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther today.

NUC sweeps MVL: New Ulm Cathedral swept Minnesota Valley Lutheran, winning 3-0 and 7-2 in a Tomahawk Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

Cathedral’s Collin Helget allowed four hits and struck out six in seven innings for the Game 1 win, and Gabe Knowles was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Kris Goetzke had a double for MVL, and Rick Jensen took the loss. He allowed three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings.

Brandon Barnick had a double and two RBIs for Cathedral in Game 2, and Helget had two hits and a run scored.

Justin Bruns had two hits and a run scored for MVL.

MVL (5-7, 3-4 in Tomahawk) hosts Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Fairmont sweeps St. Peter: Levi Becker had three RBIs as Fairmont swept the South Central Conference doubleheader at St. Peter.

In the opener, Luke Becker pitched a complete game, while Ryan Noll drove in two runs. Levi Becker and Mitch Pfingsten each had a hit and RBI.

Same Wenner led St. Peter with two hits and two RBIs.

Spencer Chirpich was the winning pitcher in the seocnd game, allowing no earned runs with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Luke Becker, Levi Becker and Jay Ruen each had two hist and two RBIs.

Jordan Sorensen had three hits and an RBI for the Saints (4-6, 2-5), who play Thursday at New Ulm.

New Ulm 13, St. James 4: Blake Neumann was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead New Ulm to the SCC victory at St. James.

Chase Meyer was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, and Tanner Kluis had a hit, RBI and three runs scored. Meyer pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

For St. James, Walker Froehling was 3 for 4 with a run scored, and Kyle Pinke and Devin Wolfe each had an RBI. Pinke took the loss in relief. The Saints led 4-1 in the fourth inning.

St. James (7-6, 4-4) plays St. Anthony Village at the Delano tournament Thursday.

USC 15, St. Clair 5: Steve Voigt, Lucas George and Colin Becher drove in three runs apiece s United South Central won the nonconference game in Wells.

Walker Linde, Colin Becher and Grant Becher had three hits apiece. Steve Voigt went four innings for the win, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

St. Clair’s Freitag went 2 for 3 and Lehmann double. Freitag took the loss.

USC (9-4, 5-3 in Gopher Conference) plays Thursday at New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
