20 honored on all-city softball, baseball teams

It was a rare spring season for softball and baseball in Mankato, with none of the teams making it to state tournaments.

But there were several outstanding individual performances, which are highlighted by the first Mankato Motors/Peppers/MAYBA all-city softball and baseball teams. The all-city banquet was held Wednesday night at Loose Moose Saloon.

In softball, Mankato Loyola senior Maddie McCargar batted .500 with 32 hits and a team-high 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored. She only struck out once this season, while taking 10 walks. She stole 11 bases.

Senior Jessi Van Blarcom batted .406 and scored 19 runs while driving in 19.

Junior Aunikah Bastian betted .471 with a team-high 33 hits. She scored 10 runs and had 20 RBIs.

Junior Katie Homan pitched 85 innings with a 10-1 record and 2.22 earned-run average. She struck out 70 while walking 28.

West senior Missy Elkins was 6-3 as a pitcher with a 1.75 ERA, striking out 46 and walking 10 in 56 innings. She also batted .256.

Senior Mackenzie Franke batted .385 with 18 RBIs. She had 30 hits, including seven doubles and one home run.

Senior Jessica Goerger led the Scarlets with a .525 batting average and 34 RBIs. She had nine doubles and one triple, and she set a school record with nine home runs.

Freshman Lexy Schoper batted .471 with 42 hits, including eight doubles, one triple and one home run. She scored 22 runs and batted in 28. As a pitcher, Schoper was 9-2 with a 1.30 ERA, striking out 87 and walking seven in 71 innings.

Mankato East senior Jordan Kuster batted .380 with 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. She hit nine doubles and two home runs.

Senior Savannah Quandt batted .423 with 10 doubles, three triples and three homers. She drove in 25 runs and scored 17.

For baseball, West had five all-city selections.

Senior Ian Schwickert pitched 33 2/3 innings and posted a 2.29 ERA. He was 2-2 with 22 strikeouts and 18 walks. He batted .288 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

Junior Devin Ries was 4-1 with a 2.29 ERA in 33 2/3 innings pitched. He struck out 14 and walked 10. He also batted .362.

Junior Tyler Stoffel batted .403 with 10 doubles, one home run and 18 RBIs. His on-base percentage was .477.

Junior Isaac Weber batted .358 with 17 RBIs. He had seven doubles.

Sophomore Conor Wollenzien batted .357, driving in 17 runs and scoring 14. He had seven doubles.

East senior Drew Quame batted .385 with a .673 slugging percentage. He had three home runs and 12 RBIs.

Junior Sean Allan batted .349 with 11 RBIs, and he scored 11 runs. He also pitched 17 2/3 innings with a 6.34 ERA.

Loyola senior Evan Ellingworth batted .484, scoring 23 runs and driving in 28 with nine stolen bases. He also pitched, posting a 5-2 record and 3.19 ERA.

Senior Andrew Sweere batted .326. He had nine RBIs, and he scored 20 runs.

Junior Shane Sellner batted .362 with 12 RBIs, and he scored 24 runs. He was 3-2 on the mound, with a 3.99 ERA.
