---- — MANKATO — Jordan Davis of Sioux Falls wanted his proposal to Molly Baron to be memorable and, by all accounts, he pulled it off Saturday afternoon.
Davis and Baron were caked in mud as they crossed the finish line together at the annual Mankato Mud Run on Good Counsel Hill. Despite their mutual exhaustion, Davis pulled it together long enough to get down on one knee and ask Baron to marry him.
She quickly said yes and the tears started flowing. Even before she washed off the mud, a beaming Baron was trying on her engagement ring.
"I started planning it a few weeks ago," Davis said. "I wanted to catch her off guard and I think I did."
Baron, also of Sioux Falls, said they've been together for about a year. While they've been talking about marriage, she didn't expect the question to be popped at the finish line.
"I didn't see this coming at all," she said through her tears of joy. "We have a vacation scheduled together in October and I thought he might do it then, but I didn't expect this."
When Davis was asked if he was worried she might not accept, he replied with an emphatic no. "It never crossed my mind."
