East edges Loyola in girls soccer

MANKATO — Rebekah Kolstad broke a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes remaining in the first half to lead Mankato East to a 2-1 victory over Mankato Loyola in a nonconference girls soccer match played Tuesday at Thomas O. Anderson Fields.

East’s Taylor Kuechle opened the game’s scoring just 40 seconds into the contest. She took a pass from Lizzy Vetter and buried it in the back of the net.

About 12 minutes later, Loyola answered with a goal from Aunikah Bastian. That set the stage for Kolstad’s game-winner with an assist from Emily Stengel.

East outshot the Crusaders 13-4. Emily Flahtery picked up the win for the Cougars.

East (4-1) hosts Century at 5 p.m. Thursday at Thomas O. Anderson Fields.

Waseca girls soccer 3, St. Peter 2: In a match played Tuesday, the Bluejays downed the Saints in St. Peter.

Brittany Miller scored on a penalty kick in the first half for Waseca. Lizzy Strand and Katelyn Miller also scored for the winners.

On Thursday, Waseca plays at Cannon Falls and St. Peter plays at New Ulm.

Belle Plaine volleyball 3, Jordan 0: The Tigers defeated Jordan 29-27, 25-17, 2 25-11 in a Minnesota River Conference match on Tuesday.

Mariena Hayden led the team with 16 kills. Marykay Nasby had 12 kills and Amara Meyer added six.

Devin Lehman led the Tigers with 36 set assists. Elizabeth Johnson had 15 digs.

Belle Plaine (2-0) plays Watertown-Mayer at home Thursday.

St. James girls tennis 7, RV 0: In a match played Tuesday, St. James shut out Redwood Valley 7-0 in nonconference play.

Sophomore Aubrey Eckstrom had the most decisive win for the Saints, downing Carli Grannes 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Teammate Taylor Nordhauson was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fourth singles.
