The Minnesota State men’s basketball team is seeded second, and the women’s basketball team is seeded fourth as the first Central Region seedings were released Wednesday.
In the men’s, Winona State is No. 1, followed by the Mavericks (20-4), Augustana, St. Cloud State, Harding, Central Missouri, Arkansas Tech, Fort Hays, Southwest Minnesota State and Upper Iowa.
Minnesota State is rated ninth in the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
The top seed for the women’s Central Region is Washburn, followed by Central Missouri and Concordia-St. Paul.
Minnesota State (20-4), which is rated 21st in the USA Today coaches poll, is fourth, followed by Truman State, Augustana, Arkansas Tech, Southwest Oklahoma State, Northeastern State and Fort Hays State.
The top eight teams will qualify for the NCAA tournament, which begins at regional sites March 16. The Central Region is comprised of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Mid-America Athletic Association and Great American Conference.
Minnesota State hosts the final weekend of the regular season, with Sioux Falls playing here Friday and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday. The games are scheduled for 6 and 8 p.m. Friday and 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday.
