East boys fall to Faribault on last-second shot

FARIBAULT — Mankato East’s Brandon Adema put the Cougars up 49-48 with 20 seconds remaining, but Faribault’s Tim Messenger was able to grab his own rebound and make a shot with .07 seconds left to give the Falcons a 50-49 in Big Nine Conference boys basketball win Friday.

The Cougars’ Brock Margenthaler nailed eight 3-point shots to score a career high 24 points. Mattu Chuol scored 15.

Nate Emge led the Falcons with 13 points.

The Cougars shot 47 percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers to Faribault’s 12. Faribault won the rebound battle 26-25.

East (6-19) has its final regular season game Thursday when it hosts Rochester Century.
