Crusaders 3rd at JCC tourney

JACKSON — The Mankato Loyola softball team compiled a 2-1 record on Saturday to place third at the Jackson County Central Tournament.

The Crusaders began the day with 9-0 win over St. Peter. Katie Homan tossed a two-hitter and Rae Dose was 3 for 4 with a double.

Aunikah Bastian and Jordyn Theuninck each had a single and a double. Theuninck knocked in two runs and Jessi Van Blarcom added two hits.

In the second round, Loyola lost 13-0 to Big Lake. Bastian had two hits and a stolen base to lead the Crusaders.

In the third-place game, Homan scattered seven hits in a 2-0 shutout over host JCC. She struck out three and walked three.

Maddie McCargar doubled and scored a run. Jordyn Strachan had an RBI.

Loyola (11-2) plays a nonconference game at 4 p.m. Monday at Jordan.
