Lewer wins in SCC tournament

WASECA — John Lewer of Waseca won the No. 1 singles title Saturday as the South Central Conference boys tennis tournament. Lewer defeated Grant Becker of Fairmont 6-1, 6-4 in the title match.

At second singles, New Ulm’s Cal Collum defeated John Foss of St. James 7-2, 7-6 (4). Collum’s teammate, Josh Koeplin, won the No. 3 singles bracket with a 7-6 (2), 6-7 (3), 6-3 win over St. Peter’s Zeke Haugen.

St. Peter’s Joey More won the fourth singles championship. He downed Austin Becker of Fairmont 6-4, 7-5.

At first doubles, the St. Peter duo of Alex Willson and Ben Gault edged Josh Metzdorf and Ryan Von Ende 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. At second doubles, the St. James tandem of Connor Engel and Cole Skow defeated Nels Kallaus and Avery Bachman of St. Peter 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Waseca’s John Janssen and Andy Haley defeated Erik Heitz and Sandin Skow of St. James 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. No team scores were kept.
