CHASKA — Mankato West eliminated Mankato East and then fell to Chaska in the Section 2AAA baseball tournament on Friday.
The Scarlets defeated the Cougars 6-1 and then fell to the Hawks 4-0.
Against East, Josh Cook went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Connor Wollenzien finished 2 for 2 with an RBI. Devin Ries was 2 for 3 with a double and also picked up the save in relief of Ian Schwickert. Schwickert allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked four in five-plus innings.
West scored four runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a pair of East errors.
East had eight hits and stranded 12 runners. Cooper Wolfe went 2 for 2 with a run. Drew Quame was 2 for 3, driving in his team’s lone run in the third inning. Nick Brink took the loss, allowing nine hits and two walks and striking out three over seven innings. Four of West’s runs were earned.
In West’s second game, Chaska pitcher Riley Sweeney pitched a two-hitter, striking out 12. Wollenzien and Tyler Stoffel had the hits.
Ryan Schlichte took the loss, allowing nine hits, striking out seven and walking three.
The Scarlets will host Chanhassen in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Monday at site to be determined in Mankato.
