What goes around comes around in fantasy

Remember early in the season when I whined about losing a bunch of games by the slimmest of margins as a result of no-name NFL players having great days? Well, this past weekend was payback time.

In my keeper league I pulled out a 100.9-98.2 victory thanks directly to the performance of Chicago Bears backup quarterback Josh McCown on Monday night. McCown threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 27.6 points that league.

Josh Who you say? Yep, Josh McCown, a career backup who was added to my roster during the week only because Colin Kaepernick was on bye and Michael Vick was injured.

Of course McCown wasn’t the only reason I won. The Chiefs erupted for 18 fantasy points and that certainly didn’t help.

The fact that I left Alfred Morris (18.1 points) and Danny Amendola (18.2 points) sitting on my bench and was still able to win probably added to my opponent’s frustration.

In The Free Press League (also known as the Key City Fantasy Football League), I won not so much because of what my team did as because of what my opponent’s team didn’t do.

He was trailing by less than four points going into the Monday night game but still had Aaron Rodgers to play while I had nobody left.

Well, we all know what happened. Rodgers got hurt in the first series of the game and never came back. The injury resulted in a 64.68 to 61.82 win for yours truly.

It had to be doubly exasperating for him when you look at my starting receiving corps — DeAndre Hopkins of Texas, Kenny Stills of New Orleans and Marvin Jones of Cincinnati. None of them topped 66 yards in receiving or scored a touchdown.

In the Katoland Keeper League, where I share a team with cohort Denny Weller, we rolled to a 118-80 victory.
