Strong 2nd-half lifts MSU men to win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Gage Wooten scored 19 points with seven rebounds as Minnesota State University defeated Augustana 60-48 Friday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball.

The Mavericks were down 29-23 at halftime but Augustana went cold during the game’s second half. The Vikings shot only 11.4 percent (4 or 35) from the field in the final 20 minutes compared to MSU’s  44.4 percent (12 for 27)  from the field in the second-half.

Jimmy Whitehead had 13 points and seven rebounds and Connor O’Brien scored eight points with 10 rebounds for the Mavericks.

Whitehead gave the Mavericks their first lead with a layup with 14:50 left in the second half. MSU did not trail the rest of the game.

Cameron McCaffery led Augustana with 15 points.

MSU (9-1, 5-1 in NSIC) takes on Wayne State at 6 p.m. tonight. Augustana falls to 8-2 and 4-2 in the NSIC.
