Austin Majeski erupted for 32 points and a grabbed seven rebounds to lead Mankato West to a 65-53 Big Nine Conference boys basketball win at Rochester Mayo Friday.
Majeski was 5 of 8 from beyond the arch. The Scarlets outscored Mayo 37-28 in the second half.
Tyler Stoffel finished with 10 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers in the second half. Carter Burmeister added six rebounds, six points, five assists and four steals.
Mayo was led by Maurice Cain’s 23 points.
West (6-5, 4-2 in Big Nine) takes on Mankato East at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Minnesota State’s Bresnan Arena.
East girls 74, Owatonna 51: Four starters reached double-figures in scoring as Mankato East won the Big Nine Conference game at home.
Claire Ziegler led the Cougars with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Karge had 15 points, Abby Connell had 14 points and Minnie Frederick finished with 11 points and eight assists.
East raced to a 42-20 first-half lead and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Katlin Ptachek led Owatonna with 25 points.
East (9-3, 5-1 in Big Nine) is back in action tonight at Rochester Mayo.
Owatonna 64, East boys 42: Owatonna’s Sam Fenske scored 15 points in a Big Nine victory over Mankato East at Owatonna.
Nic Seiler, Brandon Adema and Matt Bornholdt had seven points apiece for the Cougars. East was outrebounded 36 to 27.
East (2-10) plays Mankato West at 7:30 Tuesday at the Taylor Center.
Mayo girls 59, West 42: Rachel Doll scored 17 points to lead Rochester Mayo to the Big Nine Conference win at Mankato West.
The Spartans put the game away early, racing to a 29-12 first-half lead. Both teams scored 30 points in the second half as the Scarlets cut down on their turnovers and became more aggressive on offense.
Cara Christiansen led West with 14 points and five rebounds. Lexie Schoper helped out with eight points and three steals. Kenzie Franke also scored eight points.
West (310, 2-7 in Big Nine) plays Mankato East at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Minnesota State’s Bresnan Arena.
